Welcome back to the Meet Our Team Q&A series. My name is Daniela Williams, Project Manager at ISE, and I’ll be asking ISE team members questions to help give insight into what makes us tick.
This month is ISE's 17th anniversary! Today I'm interviewing Deb Droll, ISE"s Controller (among many other things), and one of the original ISE team members.
Q. What did you do prior to coming on board to ISE seventeen years ago?
Deb: I was working for Diversified Software Industries which was then purchased by Nexiq. This is the prior company that failed financially. The upshot is that this was the opportunity to start ISE. Prior to all of this I was employed by a restaurant franchiser in the role of Vice President of Finance. My departure from that company to ISE turned out to be a great move to a company on the cutting edge of technology.
Q. As one of the original employees, what drew you in to join the team?
Deb: I initially turned Hass down several times when he asked me to join the ISE team. I think the uncertainties related to the bankruptcy of Nexiq blurred my vision. I am so glad that he asked me that third time to join the team. I was excited to be a part of the Innovative Software Engineering team knowing the high quality of the team members and their values.
Q. Not all startups are able to sustain in the long run. Why do you think ISE is a success story?
Deb: ISE started with the principles, processes and values that are the building blocks of a successful company. We have continued to stay true to our positive culture throughout these past 17 years. Developing trusting relationships with our customers has also been a key to continued growth and success. Additionally, our financially conservativism has also served us well over time.
Q. What do you find most rewarding with the work you do as ISE’s Controller?
Deb: One of the most rewarding opportunities is being able to provide the financial information to the leadership team to help us make the best decisions for ISE and One Trimble. Currently I have the added opportunity to work with benefits and payroll which allows me to work closely with team members, which I really enjoy.
Q. What do you do for fun?
Deb: I love to be outside whether going for long walks, biking or just reading a book on the screen porch. I recently have been doing strength training on a regular basis and look forward to this destressing after a hectic day at work. I enjoy attending Hawkeye sports with my husband and son, especially basketball games and wrestling meets. My favorite places to relax include our family cabin on Lake Okoboji in northwest Iowa as well as spending time in Austin, TX with our daughter.
