|It's May - the weather is turning from the unusually cold winter to our beautiful Iowa spring and people are back outside exploring by bike. It's the perfect time to celebrate National Bike Month! Sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month was established in 1956 as a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling - and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.|
At ISE, we have celebrated Bike Month since 2014 with various activities for our team members to encourage more commuting to work. This year's activities include:
A Lunch and Learn covering strategies to make commuting to ISE by bike fun and easy. Nick Lorch also shared some insights he has gained over the last year as he commuted almost daily.
On Monday of Bike to Work Week, our bike mechanic expert, Todd, hosted a bike safety check and performed minor repairs on team member's bikes.
We're culminating with a bike ride to lunch for Bike to Work Day (the Friday of Bike to Work Week).
This year it is extra special because ISE has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as one of Coralville’s first official Bicycle Friendly Business due to our proximity to a major bike path, plentiful bike parking, facilities for bike commuters, our culture which supports bike commuting, and fun events celebrating cycling. And, our workplace being very responsive to overcoming obstacles for commuters such as adding bike racks.
As a year-round bike commuter, I'm proud to be part of a company that embraces commuting to work by bike and is located in a bike-focused community. It was one of the many selling points when joining the ISE team over five years ago.
