2018 Bike to Work Month

Bike to Work Day BreakfastMay is National Bike Month!  This week is National Bike to Work Week which is capped off on Friday (today) with National Bike to Work Day.  According to the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month was established in 1956 as a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling - and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.

As the month has progressed and the weather improved, more ISE employees have been riding their bikes to work.  There has also been a little encouragement from the City of Coralville as construction season is in full force near our main office.

To celebrate, a couple of the committees organized activities for all ISE team members.

Each month our Lunch and Learn committee hosts a speaker as a means to share knowledge with peers.  Yesterday our ISE bike expert, Todd, gave a presentation on the ABC++'s (see what he did there - C++!) of biking.  It was very informative as an introduction to bike maintenance - everything a good commuter should know for tire pressure to changing a tire to clothing.

Bike RackISE's Fun Committee also got in on the action with a breakfast this morning for all employees and prizes for those that commuted in by bike. Thanks to Geoff's Bike and Ski, World of Bikes, and Sugar Bottom Bikes for the donations!

Today 20% of our work force chose to  bike to work today - eliminating 90 miles of commuting or about 6 gallons of gas. As an avid cyclist myself, I'm excited to see our bike rack overflowing!  Time to get a couple more...
